Free at Last

You went to them with outstretched hands,
and they asked you to wait.
'Help is on the way', they said,
while your children bled.

Muted by all the pain,
You wait and watch.
Ravaged your country stands,
and all your hopes go up in flames.

The good days never came,
nor the promised help.
All that was left of you,
was a hollow self.

You've been crying for so long,
the tears have lost their meaning.
Somehow, you still walk on,
Looking for your past glory.

And then the day comes finally,
when your heart gives up.
And as the darkness envelops you,
you permit yourself a final laugh.

[Your dreams were robbed, but your spirit will be free.
Just fly on, spread your wings. This is how it was meant to be.
You were a caged bird here, you were confined, But now you are free.]
