False Gods

You stood in line for ages,
To hear the words of sages.
Words as sweet as honey.
Unknown to you, so phony.

You dreamt your life is better.
You'll leave behind what's bitter.
But they sold you a rosy dream.
You could not hear yourself scream.

The godman said he is your master.
"Give me your hand, I'll guide you hereafter".
And you sat in his glittering halls.
Amidst fragrant flowers and prayer calls.

You gave away yourself to him.
The brightness in you began to dim.
He bought you with his unwanted gift.
You began to sleep, mind started to drift.

Now you do not know who you represent.
A life spent in piety, which you may repent.
Words and phrases made to mesmerize.
Will lead you to your ultimate demise.
